HVAC Repair Services Built for North Florida Homes and Businesses

Tony Kelly Heating & Air Conditioning repairs heating and cooling systems for homeowners and light commercial properties throughout Tallahassee and surrounding North Florida communities. Our technicians diagnose problems affecting air conditioners, heat pumps, furnaces, thermostats, airflow, electrical components, and other HVAC equipment to restore reliable performance.

North Florida’s long cooling season, high humidity, and frequent summer storms place extra demand on HVAC systems. Our team understands the common repair issues these conditions create and provides clear recommendations based on the condition of your equipment—not a one-size-fits-all solution.

During a repair appointment, our technician reviews the symptoms, tests the system’s controls and operating components, identifies the source of the failure, and explains the available options before approved work begins. After the repair, we test the equipment again to confirm that it is operating properly.

When a repair is no longer the most practical option, we’ll explain why and help you understand the next steps. Our goal is to restore your comfort with the solution that makes the most sense for your home, your system, and your budget.

These guys are the best! They’ve been servicing my 18 year old AC for years. When my system finally died, they quoted me a great price on a 14 SEER American Standard system. They installed the whole system in one day and it’s fantastic. They sealed all my ducts and increased the return air duct. My whole house is now wonderfully comfortable and the system seems to be working about half as hard as the old one.

Common HVAC Problems We Diagnose and Repair

Heating and cooling problems can show up in different ways, but the visible symptom is not always the source of the failure. Tony Kelly Heating & Air Conditioning uses system testing and hands-on diagnostics to identify what is affecting performance before recommending a repair.

Warm Air Is Coming From the Vents

Warm or room-temperature air can be caused by thermostat settings, restricted airflow, electrical failures, low refrigerant, frozen coils, or problems with the outdoor unit. Our technicians test the system to find the cause instead of replacing parts based on guesswork. Cooling-specific problems may require dedicated air conditioning repair.

The HVAC System Will Not Turn On

A system that does not start may have a tripped breaker, damaged capacitor, failed contactor, thermostat problem, loose electrical connection, or control-board issue. We inspect the electrical and mechanical components involved and explain what failed before beginning approved repairs.

Airflow Feels Weak or Uneven

Weak airflow can result from a clogged filter, blower motor problem, dirty coil, damaged ductwork, blocked return, or an improperly balanced system. Our team evaluates airflow throughout the equipment and duct system to determine where performance is being lost.

The System Keeps Turning On and Off

Frequent starts and stops, often called short cycling, place added stress on HVAC components and make it harder to maintain a steady indoor temperature. Common causes include thermostat issues, restricted airflow, frozen coils, electrical problems, and equipment that is not operating within the correct pressure or temperature range.

The HVAC System Is Making Unusual Noises

Buzzing, rattling, grinding, squealing, or banging sounds can point to loose parts, motor problems, failing bearings, electrical issues, damaged fan blades, or compressor trouble. New or worsening noises should be checked before the underlying failure causes more extensive damage.

The Heating System Is Not Keeping Up

Poor heating performance may involve the heat pump, backup heat strips, thermostat, blower assembly, electrical controls, or airflow through the home. Our technicians diagnose the full heating system and can direct customers with heating-specific concerns to the appropriate heater repair service.

Water Is Collecting Around the Indoor Unit

Water near the air handler often points to a clogged condensate drain, damaged drain pan, frozen evaporator coil, or condensate pump problem. Drain issues are especially common during North Florida’s long, humid cooling season and should be addressed before moisture damages nearby materials.

The Thermostat Is Not Responding

Thermostat problems can come from incorrect calibration, wiring faults, damaged sensors, power loss, or communication failures between the thermostat and HVAC equipment. We test the controls and connected components to determine whether repair, recalibration, or replacement is appropriate.

Indoor Humidity Remains High

High humidity can signal low refrigerant, poor airflow, oversized equipment, short cycling, or an HVAC system that is not removing moisture effectively. We first evaluate system performance and operating conditions. Homes that need additional moisture control may benefit from a whole-home dehumidifier.

Dust, Stale Air, or Airflow Problems Persist

Dirty filters, leaking ducts, damaged ductwork, buildup inside the system, and airflow restrictions can affect both comfort and indoor air quality. Our technicians look for repair-related airflow problems first. Additional concerns may be addressed through air duct cleaning or other indoor air quality services.

A Commercial HVAC System Keeps Breaking Down

Repeated equipment failures can interrupt operations, affect customers, and make indoor conditions difficult for employees. We provide repair support for select light commercial systems. Larger properties and specialized equipment needs can be reviewed through our commercial HVAC services.

The System Has Completely Shut Down

A complete loss of heating, cooling, or airflow may involve electrical failure, a damaged control board, motor trouble, safety controls, or another major component. Same-day appointments are available when scheduling allows, and urgent requests are prioritized during extreme temperatures and complete system failures.

HVAC Components and Systems We Repair

An HVAC problem may begin with one failed part, a control issue, or several components no longer working together correctly. Tony Kelly Heating & Air Conditioning tests the complete system so the recommended repair addresses the source of the failure rather than only the visible symptom.

Our technicians diagnose and repair:

  • Thermostats, sensors, and system controls that affect temperature settings, equipment communication, and operating cycles
  • Capacitors, contactors, relays, transformers, and circuit boards involved in starting and controlling HVAC equipment
  • Blower motors, fan motors, belts, and bearings that move conditioned air through the system and home
  • Heat pumps and electric heating components that provide heating and cooling through the same system. Learn more about dedicated heat pump repair and service.
  • Refrigerant circuits, coils, compressors, and expansion components when cooling performance, pressure, or heat transfer is affected
  • Condensate drains, drain pans, and condensate pumps that remove moisture produced during the cooling process
  • Air handlers, return-air pathways, dampers, and duct connections that contribute to weak airflow or uneven comfort
  • Backup heat strips, ignition components, and other heating controls used during colder North Florida weather
